Max Walter Peter Beier (1903-1979)
He was an Austrian entomologist and arachnologist who was born in Spittal an der Drau, in the province of Carinthia.  He studied at Vienna University and was awarded a doctorate in 1927 and went to work in the Vienna Natural History Museum as an entomologist.  He later became an arachnologist and specialized in pseudoscorpions; he went on to become the director of the Zoology department in 1967.  He died in Vienna in 1979.  He described a considerable number of new species of mantids
