This male nymph of Popa spurca spurca Stål, 1856 was found at Mason Shelter on the Brandberg Massif.  It was collected and reared to adult in the UK.  It is one of the praying mantids collected during the "Gladiator Expedition" to Namibia in 2002.  The main aim of the expedition was to find specimens of Mantophasmatodea; a secondary aim was to survey other animals in the region.  Phil Bragg collected mantids on the expedition.
