Description:

This female Empusa guttula (Thunberg, 1815) was collected in the town of Uis.  It is one of the praying mantids collected during the "Gladiator Expedition" to Namibia in 2002.  The main aim of the expedition was to find specimens of Mantophasmatodea; a secondary aim was to survey other animals in the region.  Phil Bragg collected mantids on the expedition.
